LBI STANDARD PERIODICALS

Our F-grade buckram bound Standard Periodicals are available in 20 different colors. Our basic binding includes Standard Collation, verification of the title and proper sequence of the issues, acid-free endsheets, leaf attachment by double-fan gluing, and stamping on the spine with the title, volume number, and year in black, white, or gold foil. The text block is rounded and backed. Customer preparation: Each volume should be tied or banded together. Include a complete binding slip typed or neatly printed with the exact text you want us to stamp on the spine of the bound book. Note any missing pages or issues, and any other discrepancies you know to exist with the item to be bound.

ECONOMY PERIODICALS

Our Economy Periodicals are produced in the same fashion as our LBI Standard Periodicals, except that the process of rounding and backing is eliminated, leaving the text block in the flatback shape. Rounding and backing enhances the durability of bound volumes, especially those that are large or heavy. Section 19.5.3 of the ANSI/NISO/ LBI Standard contains tumble test results that show the improved strength of rounded and backed volumes. We normally recommend flatbacks for material that is used less in your collection.

LBI STANDARD MONOGRAPHS

We rebind your library books with a new F grade buckram cover with our choice of colors. Our basic binding includes leaf attachment of double-fan-gluing with our acid free end sheets and stamping the author and title on the spine. Customer preparation: Each volume should include a complete binding slip typed or neatly printed with the exact text you want us to stamp on the spine of the bound book. Please note any discrepancies you know to exist with the item to be bound.

MYLARS

(For Paperback Books) We remove the original covers of your paperback books and laminate them with clear durable Mylar film, which we then use as the cover material, from which we make a new hardcover. Your book is double-fan-glued with our acid-free PVA adhesive and cased into the new cover, resulting in a durable attractive picture cover binding that will enhance circulation. Customer preparation: We will automatically trim up to 1/8" on all four sides of Mylar bindings, so be sure and check the margins of each book to verify that the trimming will not cut into the text. If margins are too small to trim, move the item into a monographic category.

LBI STANDARD THESIS

Your thesis is bound in our durable F grade buckram cover with your choice of 20 colors. Our basic binding includes leaf attachment of double-fan-gluing with our acid free end sheets and stamping the title and author's last name on the spine. Call numbers can also be stamped as an option.

Customer preparation: Each volume should include a complete binding slip typed or neatly printed with the exact text you want us to stamp on the spine of the bound thesis.

We can also provide pockets to hold maps, computer disks, or CD's.

Please fill out the THESIS ORDER FORM and include the form and payment with your order.

The BINDING SLIP, BINDERY SHIPMENT FORM, STANDARD CLOTH COLORS and LETTERING STYLES are included here.

WRAPAROUNDS

For the book to function well, the bound text block must be at least as thick as the supplemental material. Occasionally there may be supplemental material included with a thesis exceeding the thickness of the textblock, which is too thick to be contained in a pocket. The solution is to make a product called a Wraparound, which includes a bound hardcover thesis and a hard slipcase to hold the pocket material.

STUBBING

If the supplemental material is 1/4" thick or less it can be placed in a pocket glued onto the back board of the hardcover. When the supplemental material is over and does not exceed the thickness of the text block, To compensate for the space the pocket material requires a process called stubbing is used to add space to the spine of the text block.
